Christmas Proposal 2026: When to Order Your Engagement Ring

December is the most popular month to propose in the United States, and Christmas Day is the single most popular date. That is according to the data shared in Axios and The Knot. Christmas Eve, New Year's Day, December 22 and Valentine's Day also rank near the top.

The problem is simple. Most engagement rings are made to order, so the ring cannot appear the day before. If you want it in your hands before your proposal, you need to know the dates. This guide gives you the dates, and then solves the other worries that come with a surprise: the ring size, the style, the budget, and keeping it a secret.

Our 2026 holiday order deadlines

Our shipping policy says a made-to-order ring takes 10 to 14 business days to craft and check, plus 5 to 7 business days of delivery. Business days do not include weekends or US federal holidays. We counted back from each proposal date using the slowest case, so you have a safe margin.

Proposal date Safe order date (recommended) Latest possible order date
Hanukkah begins (evening of Dec 4) By Tuesday, Nov 3 Thursday, Nov 12
Christmas Eve (Dec 24) By Monday, Nov 23 Wednesday, Dec 2
New Year's Eve (Dec 31) By Monday, Nov 30 Tuesday, Dec 8
Valentine's Day (Sunday, Feb 14, 2027) By Tuesday, Jan 12 Thursday, Jan 21

How to read this table: The "safe" date uses the slowest timeline (14 days to make and 7 days to deliver). The "latest possible" date uses the fastest timeline (10 days and 5 days), so it leaves no room for delay. We suggest you use the safe date. For Valentine's Day we aimed for delivery by Thursday, February 11.

These are estimates from our published policy. If your date is close, message us before you order and we will check the exact schedule for your ring. Faster shipping options are available at checkout once production is done. See the full shipping policy.

Problem 1: You do not know her ring size

This is the number one worry for people planning a surprise. You do not want to ask her, and a wrong size can ruin the moment.

Safe ways to find the size without spoiling it:

  • Borrow a ring. Take one she wears on her ring finger for an evening. Press it into a bar of soap or trace the inside on paper, then measure it. Our sizing guide explains it in a few steps.
  • Ask a friend or sister. They often know, or can find out casually.
  • Use a sizing chart. Our ring size guide converts ring diameter into a US size.
  • Remember that a close size is fine. Resizing is free on our rings, so being a quarter or half size off does not ruin the plan.

Fingers also change size with weather and time of day. Measure in the evening at room temperature for the best result.

Problem 2: You are not sure about her style

Look at what she wears every day. Is her jewelry gold or silver? Delicate or bold? Vintage or modern? Check her social media photos and her friends' rings for hints.

You can also read how to choose the perfect engagement ring or how to match a ring to her hand shape.

Problem 3: The package arrives and she finds it first

This is a surprise killer that many people forget. All Octa Pearl deliveries need an adult signature. If she is home, she could sign for the box.

Safe ways to handle it:

  • Ship the ring to your workplace, or to a trusted friend or family member.
  • Choose a delivery time when she is not at home, and watch your tracking email.
  • Use the gift message option at checkout so the box and note stay clean and discreet.

Your tracking number is sent as soon as the ring ships.

Problem 4: The budget gets out of control

Holiday spending is already high. A ring is usually the largest gift of the year, so set a total before you shop. Do not forget a matching wedding band later.

  • Lab-grown diamonds usually cost far less than natural ones of the same size and quality, so you can often choose a larger or higher-quality stone for the same money.
  • Use code OCTA50 for $50 off orders of $350 or more.
  • Our automatic Bridal Pair offer saves $150 on a wedding band when you buy it with an engagement ring.
  • Black Friday codes run from November 24 to December 1: TIER50 ($50 off $500+), TIER120 ($120 off $1,000+) and TIER250 ($250 off $2,000+).
  • Shop Pay Installments can split the payment at checkout.

Please check at checkout how codes apply together.

Problem 5: What if she does not love it?

Many people do not want to buy a ring without her input. You can still stay safe:

  • You can return or exchange within 30 days of delivery if the ring is unworn and has its box and IGI report. This includes rings with our free laser engraving. Read the return policy.
  • You can cancel or change the size or metal within 24 hours of ordering.
  • Custom CAD designs made from scratch are final sale, so choose carefully for those.

Many couples also choose the ring together after the proposal. Some people propose with a simple placeholder ring and choose the final ring as a pair. Our proposal ideas have more ways to make the moment personal.

Problem 6: You are running out of time

If you are close to or past the safe date, you still have options:

  1. Message us right away on WhatsApp or by phone at +1 (551) 342-2092 with your proposal date.
  2. Ask about ready-to-ship designs. In-stock pieces are usually dispatched in 1 to 2 business days, according to our shipping policy.
  3. Choose faster shipping at checkout after production.
  4. Make the proposal first and say "your ring is on its way." Many couples love this, and it gives you time to choose a style she loves.

Your simple Christmas proposal plan

  1. This week: Decide your budget and her likely style.
  2. Next 7 days: Find her ring size and pick 2 or 3 favorites. Save them to your wishlist.
  3. By the safe order date: Place your order and choose a discreet delivery address.
  4. After you order: Track the package, plan the moment, and decide where to keep the ring safe.
